Amelie brought magical realism to the mainstream. Beyond its somewhat simple yet touching story, the movie features amazing cinematography and overall the treatment is just mind-blowing.
I'm hardly a Will Ferrell fan but I do love Maggie Gyllenhaal, and thus I watched this movie based on the recommendation of a friend. In the end I was more than happy with the experience and I'm glad that I saw this movie.
This is a movie that feels like a book and inspires people to want to write. However if this were read as a book, it just wouldn't be the same and I think this is the first movie that I'd say is better than any possible book adaptation. It's just that amazing.
The complex characters, the somewhat surrealist plot and of course the highly intellectual yet not overly complicated ending - magnificent!
Honeyed chocolate. It's an amazingly rich visual feast that is bound to overwhelm your senses, woven together by a plot so intricate and deeply meaningful that it'll blow your mind away. To what extent will a child go to escape the harshness of the reality that she is forced to live in?
This dynamic film really pushed the envelope of storytelling. Instead of just telling one story from multiple POVs, the film explored multiple plotlines and how the smallest change can change the entire course of events. Think Sliding Doors with more meat.
It's a musical, with rock music. What more could you ask for? Throw in a botched sex change operation and amazing words of poetry and you just begin to understand what this movie is about.
Initially that's all I can say about this movie. I mean seriously, this is not some children's comic book movie for sure but a serious, dark look at what the Batman-Joker relationship really is and why the Joker ultimately deserves to be Batman's truest arch nemesis.
It's a shame that Heath Ledger did not live to see this final performance since he was simply amazing as the Joker - he pulled the role off flawlessly and finally gave us an on-screen representation of his character for us to remember for years to come.
This is a MUST-SEE movie for anyone, whether or not you're intimately close with the Batman franchise. This is a study of order trying to suppress chaos and really representing just what chaos really is.
This was practically a poetic epic translated into film - the fight scenes were beyond artistic and the use of colors were just astounding and mind-blowing.
As someone who grew up on Disney films and musicals, going out to see Enchanted was a no-brainer for me. Still, I was surprised at how entertaining the film was and the level of subtle maturity in the humor involved.
I guess it was good that Disney learned to laugh at its own Princess fairy tale patterns in order to craft this modern update of the old archetype. If you want something to bring a smile to your face, then this is definitely a movie for you.
I LOVED THIS MOVIE! Then again, maybe I have too much of a thing for Tim Burton. In a time when cartoons were moving towards CGI, Burton shook up the landscape by going back to stop-motion animation. Wicked.
This is not your father's Autobot - a tagline originally used for the Generation 2 comics that might fit this movie very well. While it was not meant as a faithful adaptation of the original series, this remains to be a stunning update of the classic series that features mind-boggling effects and a lot of easter eggs for long-time fans of the series.
At the end of the day I'm a Transformers geek and this film really shocked the Transformers Universe by doing the one thing you never thought possible - killing a main character.
I love penguins and I love musicals and putting the two concepts together made for an amazing movie. The use of contemporary and classic songs gave it a Moulin Rouge feel and the ending environmental message didn't feel overly forced.
This movie was simply AMAZING. As a fan of the series, I was really happy since the film was clearly a homage to the core series behind it. It was done tastefully and definitely not over the top. At the same time, it's accessible to new audiences and it effectively sets the stage for more movies or even a new TV series based around J.J. Abrams' reinterpretation of the Star Trek universe.
I now have new found respect for the man and this might actually make me want to watch Lost.
This is an amazing movie that meant for the die-hard fans and those who have never watched a Star Trek movie before. While it helps if you know something about Star Trek, it's definitely not a requirement. If this is your first time ever to try venturing into science fiction, then this is a great choice to ease you into things.
You MUST go watch this movie! You are missing out on a major part of your life if you do!
