I love the smell of fabric softener. Seriously.
What's there to say about me? The fact that I can be such a nerd and get lost in conversations about topics as serious as world politics and as inane as the purpose of raisins in oatmeal cookies. Perhaps I should go into my love of books, comics, cartoons and almost everything that comes in print? Don't forget how campy I can get about musicals, Audrey Hepburn and other elements of "culture" that I have my gran to thank for. I'm hardly witty and corny at best, but I try (don't most of us?) I can be extremely finicky and borderline obsessive compulsive when it comes to using paired utensils or organizing the paper before reading it. Don't even start about how you're supposed to eat apples. Don't worry, I don't bite much. I don't know where you've been after all, haha. |

WaSanGo (Volcano High)
PG-13
This movie turned out to be a lot better than I thought it would be - this is totally what it means to bring anime-style storytelling to life in a live-action movie.
Sure, it's not a movie meant to be taken seriously and it's filled with crazy characters, odd humor and even more ridiculous hairstyles. But that's Korean film making for you and just have to sit back, relax and enjoy the ride for what it's worth.
Dan in Real Life
PG-13
This is not your typical Steve Carell comedy, which is probably why I liked the movie. It's not about over the top comedy, extremely awkward situations or mindless physical comedy. It's just an interesting look at something which really can happen (and probably has) and given how grounded in reality it comes across.
It had it's share of great moments, funny moments, awkward instances and naturally dragging sort of pointless moments, but it's really a slightly more serious romantic comedy of sorts, so that's just par for the course. It's still a pretty entertaining film, a different kind of romance film to see and a nice way to spend any lazy afternoon.
Push
PG-13
I watched this movie for one simple reason - the hopes of seeing Chris Evans topless, or better yet naked. I didn't get that. Instead what we ended up with was some bad dialog, dragging sequences and fight scenes that had no real spirit or muscle to them.
The movie felt flat, dragging and mindless with a plot that really didn't go anywhere significant. It was an amazing struggle to stay awake throughout the film, what more finish it.
The only good points about this movie would have to be (1) the interesting opening introduction that tells just exactly what's going on in this place and (2) the random and rare moments when they interpret certain powers in a very interesting manner.
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen
PG-13
The Michael Bay Transformers franchise (and note this is HIS and not really Hasbro's anymore) gets credit for it's amazing use of CGI and finally bringing the dream of live-action Transformers to life. At the same time, it's key to remember that this is NOT the original Generation 1 and you can bank on the fact that Michael Bay won't even TRY to pay true homage to the cartoons and comic books that have come before. He never claimed to be a fan and after watching this movie, you'll really know that's true.
This movie is not great because of its story or because of how compelling the characters are or anything serious like that. This is CGI porn (as many reviewers are calling it), a visual extravaganza of mind-numbing fight scenes that go by so fast that you don't even know what's going on any more. It has stupid eye candy like Megan Fox on a motorcycle and it has more robots than ever before even though you can't even identify who they are.
This is pure unadulterated shallow adult entertainment - something for you to enjoy without thinking too much about it. If you want a movie that has massive robot fight sequences, mind-jarring explosions and lots of Megan Fox running around so her breasts swing around, then this is exactly the movie for you.
Terminator Salvation
PG-13
This was a lot better than I expected given the negative reviews. It was a good Terminator movie (but maybe not a great movie in a general sense) and it was a nice homage to the past films and to some extent the recent TV series.
Definitely still worth seeing.

Amelie (Le Fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain)
R
Amelie brought magical realism to the mainstream. Beyond its somewhat simple yet touching story, the movie features amazing cinematography and overall the treatment is just mind-blowing.
2.
Stranger Than Fiction
PG-13
I'm hardly a Will Ferrell fan but I do love Maggie Gyllenhaal, and thus I watched this movie based on the recommendation of a friend. In the end I was more than happy with the experience and I'm glad that I saw this movie. This is a movie that feels like a book and inspires people to want to write. However if this were read as a book, it just wouldn't be the same and I think this is the first movie that I'd say is better than any possible book adaptation. It's just that amazing. The complex characters, the somewhat surrealist plot and of course the highly intellectual yet not overly complicated ending - magnificent!

El Laberinto del Fauno (Pan's Labyrinth)
R
Honeyed chocolate. It's an amazingly rich visual feast that is bound to overwhelm your senses, woven together by a plot so intricate and deeply meaningful that it'll blow your mind away. To what extent will a child go to escape the harshness of the reality that she is forced to live in?
4.
Run Lola Run (Lola rennt)
R
This dynamic film really pushed the envelope of storytelling. Instead of just telling one story from multiple POVs, the film explored multiple plotlines and how the smallest change can change the entire course of events. Think Sliding Doors with more meat.

Hedwig and the Angry Inch
R
It's a musical, with rock music. What more could you ask for? Throw in a botched sex change operation and amazing words of poetry and you just begin to understand what this movie is about.

The Dark Knight
PG-13
AWESOME! Initially that's all I can say about this movie. I mean seriously, this is not some children's comic book movie for sure but a serious, dark look at what the Batman-Joker relationship really is and why the Joker ultimately deserves to be Batman's truest arch nemesis. It's a shame that Heath Ledger did not live to see this final performance since he was simply amazing as the Joker - he pulled the role off flawlessly and finally gave us an on-screen representation of his character for us to remember for years to come. This is a MUST-SEE movie for anyone, whether or not you're intimately close with the Batman franchise. This is a study of order trying to suppress chaos and really representing just what chaos really is.
