House of the Dead House of the Dead R
A bunch of attractive college students go to an island for a rave and find its been overrun by zombies created by an undead pirate, or something. Sloppily made, with no characterization and terrible continuity, but it's never boring, and the Matrix-style music video zombie slaughter is so overdone it plays like a parody of the first-person shooter mentality.
A Serious Man A Serious Man R
A putzy Jewish physics professor suffers from a series of problems including a failing marriage, bratty kids, students willing to do anything for a passing grade, financial troubles, and a ne'er-do-well brother. It's a retelling of the Book of Job as an absurdist comedy; frequently funny but also confounding, with a notorious non-ending. So intensely Jewish that you'll feel your ready to be mitzvahed after one viewing.

Kicked off Hollywood's Golden Age in grand style.
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (Il Buono, il Brutto, il Cattivo.) The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (Il Buono, il Brutto, il Cattivo.) R
Three desperadoes search for a fortune in Union gold while the Civil War rages around them. A nearly perfect Western, and with its who-will-blink-first machismo perhaps the perfect "guy" movie, but also an epic work of cinematic art.
