Run of the mill scare Horror film. All about the scare tactics used to the build up towards the end scene. Very similar to Funny games but more worrying is this is based on a true event. Worth a watch once, more errie than scary.

    Terrible!

This is one of the better old school horror/thrillers I've seen in a long time. It's so unbelievably tense that I actually found myself jumping out of my seat a few times, which never happens to me. First time director Bryan Bertino shows a real talent for staging, framing, and...( read more) building suspense. He doesn't invent any new techniques, but he knows how to use old ones, especially Hitchcock's theory of suspense. I loved the minimal use of dialogue, the extended periods of silence, the small cast, and the plausibility of the whole situation.
It's kind of interesting how the plot of this film bears a lot of resemblance to Michael Haneke's Funny Games. The Strangers is pretty much the film that Funny Games was condemning. But screw Haneke's hypocritical piece of junk. The Strangers is the real deal, a very well executed, efficient nail-biter of a thriller.

if for no other reason i loved this film because it was such a welcome departure from the gore porn of horror films in recent years. perfectly terrifying with a disturbing but effective ending, this was one of the best horror films in recent years.

Supposedly based on true events (or at least the assumed events), this chilling suspense thriller explores the terror of home invasion, but never really succeeds in terrifying. Some genuinely creepy moments come out of this 'by the numbers' affair, but as a horror it kinda bores....( read more) Liv Tyler proves to be a very versatile lead, and as suspense thriller it's just okay. Could have been so much more. 'Funny Games' is far superior.

based on a true story...A fantastically creepy.........spooky........ horror flick based on the very simple premise of strangers who come knocking late at night. Kristen (Liv Tyler) and... For his film debut, director Brian Bertino has crafted a great horror flick Kristen (Liv T...( read more)yler) and James (Scott Speedman) have arrived at a secluded vacation home in the woods after attending a friend's wedding. It's four in the morning, and they're both tearful and emotionally exhausted after a disagreement about their relationship. As they awkwardly try to navigate the long night together, they are distracted by the sound of a heavy knock at the door. They open it to find a dazed young woman hidden in the shadows. Assuming she is lost, James sends her away, but Kristen is disturbed by the late-night visit. When James leaves to go on a drive and pick up some cigarettes, Kristen is left alone, and we watch her move through the huge house in a painfully eerie silence, all the while knowing that she is being watched. By the time James returns, Kristen is in hysterics, and together they must face the terrifying fact that they are indeed in grave danger. Both Tyler and Speedman give excellent, performances, there are lots of scary moments which had me sitting on the edge of my seat! loved it !!!

Ugh, I knew I was in for trouble when it began with the tagline "the events are true...yadda yadda...". They never do, they're loosely based on the Mason murders (supposedly), and the end credits make sure to remind you "the characters wherein are fictitious, any relation...coin...( read more)cidental...". Just don't pretend this shit actually happened ok?

So, this is the first movie this director/writer got to work on, and he reportedly needed books to help him through the experience. Seems like he just took an amalgam of movies over the last 20 years and put it on paper. It starts out decently enough, but there was no point to alot of what went on, and unlike other horror movies, when you're smarter than the characters you tend to enjoy what you're watching anyway because it's tongue-in-cheek. This was dreadfully serious and in the end, I just feel nothing "special" happened.
    Sorry, Miller.

Oh, and it seems they want to turn it into a franchise - they've gotten some French music video director to go with the sequel. Joy.

The Strangers has a couple of scares, but it's not anywhere near as frightening as advertised. The creepy folks of the title are more fumbling than fiendish. full review

Wow this movie sucked horribly. Major waste of my time! And a huge waste in money. This sucked at no time did I jump or scream! Very, very dissapointing! I wanted to get up and leave the theater but I figured this is good money that I paid for such a crappy movie!

A mixed verdict for this horror movie. On the plus side, created a good sense of creepiness and had some good chills, especially the ending. On the other hand, started off very slow and dragged in many spots with some really far-fetched doings. Worth a look but keep the fast-forward button close by.

This movie didnt make any sense to me. They didnt have any reason to come after them. and if they did they should have told us what it was. I also think the people in mask should have shown us who they were.

This actually looks pretty good in that scary way and telling from comments - this movie has either scared them or creeped them out so.. Obviously it's going to do the same to me possibly. BASED ON TRUE EVENTS?! Oh god. That is worse than having a horror film which isn't. Because then it makes you think... This is possibly? This happened? Oh my god!

I probably won't get to see this in the cinema (I'm not sure if I want to either) but I will deffinately rent it and watch it... IN THE DARK! at NIGHT, ALONE! bwuahaha! (I'll keep a pillow close) haha!

This sounds a bit like Funny Games, and I liked the trailer. The movie poster is great - Poor Liv doesn't know whats behind her!! I want to watch it with the lights off and be frightened! The 'home invasion' horror theme is something thats going to scare everyone!

Although this looks like a blatant rip-off of Funny Games(possibly without the meta-fiction), it looks like it was filmed rather well.
    So I'm interested.
