Jim Henson was a master storyteller who?s magical worlds and loveable characters enriched a generations imagination and made many a child happy. I love everything he?s done and still watch this, Labyrinth and the Muppet movies from time to time, it?s a tragedy he died so young bu...( read more)t luckily the Henson group are still around and rumours of new productions keep me, and millions of others happy. Just get on with it!!

For effects, design, style, puppetry, art and story, this film is 100% Henson genius, fantastic looking and beautifully told in a Muppet cross dark live action tale of wizards and magic in another world.

Its quite dark for kids and will scare, but its a twisted fairytale thats j...( read more)ust stunning in concept and production. The creatures and detail is perfect, everything works well in their own way and is crafted by skilled craftsmen/women. The only problem is its alittle dull and maybe too dark for its targeted audience.

With 'Labyrinth' this is one of Hensons brilliant 'other' Muppet movies.

The brilliance of Jim Henson and Frank Oz shines in this innovative fantasy tale. Clearly dated since 1982, but the sheer imagination of characters and settings is still amazing. Truly deserving of 'classic' status, the attention to detail is noteworthy. It must be said that some...( read more) of the darker characters may be a bit too terrifying for younger audiences, as I clearly remember being terrified as a child. Quite similar to 'Labyrinth' in many respects. Well worth a look, but remember, this was made in 1982 and it looks it at times.

Love the characters both cute and disturbing. Love the creep factor. Must see for all children, guaranteed to haunt dreams. Aughra was nipping hard core. Story difficult to follow first time around but the visuals distract you anyway. Must have essence of podlings

I was a kid when this film was released, and gave it a wide berth - it just looked to weird (belonging to the same weird world that spawned, Terrahawks). It's taken me a long time to get around to watching it.

I can't say I missed out by having avoided it for so long. Th...( read more)is is not due to the lack of human protagonists though (something that has been suggested) - it's just that the script is nowhere near developed enough - and in my opinion it needed another couple of drafts to work some of the issues out. The thing is overburdened with exposition, and sits between two audiences, without finding either: It lacks enough meat to reach an adult audience, and yet it fills itself with darkness and heavy, sprawling exposition that alienates a younger audience.

There are one-or-two ideas that bring light to it, but it doesn't really compare well to other fantasy of the 80s, such as Krull or Labyrinth (the latter also using Jim Henson's puppetry).
