Quite easily the best "Trek" movie that outdoes the previous nine film in the series. The most riveting & fun adventure that you'll see twice.

    lmao spock, fierce

No need to go into detail - you've all seen it. It's better than I'd anticipated. Fun filmgoing, to be sure.

    A few nitpicks instead:

    - Totally botched Scotty.
    - The guy playing Chekov had a hard time with the accent. It sounded too deliberate.
    - "Red matter" must be the most...( read more) obvious deus ex machina I've seen in some time.

Wonderful reboot for the franchise with seamless special effects and a solid script. Not being a trekkie, I came at this with no preconceptions or loyalties and thoroughly enjoyed it. Quinto and Pine are excellent as the leads. The filmmakers sensibly borrow the pacing and specta...( read more)cle from Star Wars but keep the Star Trek feel for the purists - a tightrope well walked.

I am not a Trekkie, although I do have friends who are. These friends are always amazed and, I think, a little embarrassed for me when I tell them that I've never been able to watch a complete TV episode or any of the movies without falling asleep.

    Interestingly, I did not fa

...( read more)ll asleep during this movie. I take that as a sign. Either this is the best incarnation of Star Trek ever, or this has little to do with either the TV show or the previous movies. I very much enjoyed the humor in this movie -- something that is sorely lacking in everything Star Trek that I've managed to see before dozing off. The actors are quite good all the way around, and the story is very interesting. I still think it would have been very cool to see John Cho smoke a joint on the bridge, or perhaps after he kills the two gentlemen on the drill. Even better would be to have Kal Penn do a walk-through, perhaps inhaling either some White Castle burgers or a little weed.

I will definitely see the sequel; I have a feeling I'll be able to stay awake.

Not a huge fan of Star Trek, but really enjoyed this film.
  • November 24, 2009
I thought this movie was aaaawwwwsooommmme. Thank the heavens for special effects.
  • November 24, 2009
Quite possibly one of the few PERFECT movies in existence. The movie has the perfect mix of stuff for the old TREK fans and people who know almost nothing about STAR TREK at all, so everyone is able to enjoy it.
Pine and Quinto were a perfect match to work side by side as Kirk a...( read more)nd Spock and worked perfect with each other and bring refreshingly young faces to the franchise.
The casting of Cho and Pegg is shear brilliance and gave the movie great laughs and action moments.
Urban channels DeForrest Kelly's McCoy, containing all the old character elements while still making it his own thing.
Nimoy fit into the old shoes of Spock perfectly and is probably better at it now then he was before.
The only person I would have preferred to not be in the movie was Tyler Perry. I'm sorry, but the guy who dresses up as Madea should not have been allowed anywhere near this film.
The story is amazing and the twists they've added will let them take the sequls anywhere they want too and promises to be AWESOME! Also I'm glad they didn't go the whole dark-background story that prequels seem to be doing lately. It proves a film can still be fun and exciting. The movie is full of the emotional intensity that I expected from something from J.J. Abrams, having been a fan of his since LOST. He did a great job with reviving STAR TREK to make it something cool once again and something everyone can enjoy and watch. Not just the guys in their mom's basement (are there any of them really living there? It has yet to be proven), but for everyone who wants to boldly go where no man has gone before and get blown away by an amazing movie. The only thing that would have made it better was if there had been Tribbles.

    "May I speak freely?"
    "I encourage it."
"Are you out of your Vulcan mind?"

extremely poor film. the plot complety destroys all other trek as the planet vulcan no longer exists! they appear to have little sense of scale and there use of physics isn't just fantastic its a load of rubish.

the special effects are fast and slightly painful on the eyes not to mention a radical departure from all previous trek.

where is the engine in the enginering section of the ship all it seems to be is a couple of large yellow metal tubes? and the scene in the water treatment was one of the worst and cheesyest bits of cinema in the history of humanity.

there are a few good acting performances but everytime there on the bridge it looks like a bunch of actors standing on a set not a starship.

most of the film is extremly predictable you see the first 2-3 seconds of a scene and pratically know how its going to end, that said the film itself seems to not know where its going and randomly jumps to a conclusion that isn't half as clever as its ment to be.

Should have been rated "G" for the "GARBAGE" it is. JJ Abrams deserves the "Tar & Feather Award"--then needs to be tarred and feathered--for how he spit all over the official history established in all the movies and the series (to say nothing of all the gaps filled in by the novel series). Even making an "alternate timeline" HAS to conform to plausible conclusions based on what's established. JJ...do us all a favor and stick with non-sci fi stuff and especially don't get your filthy paws on Star Trek ever again. Shame Roddenberry couldn't come out of his grave and strangle you, you loser.

I never was a fan of Star Trek, I don't know anything about it, but I am curious to see what J.J. Abrams would do with it. He did very well with "Lost" and "Cloverfield" wasn't so bad.
