It's soon clear this place is unlike anywhere she's ever been. It's smothered by fog, inhabited by a variety of strange beings and periodically overcome by a living "darkness" that literally transforms everything it touches. As Rose begins to learn the history of the strange town, she realizes that her daughter is just a pawn in a larger game.

After so many lousy console or computer game to movie adaptations expectations are accordingly low by now. And this film has quite a few things to offer. The cinematography and production design are wonderfully creepy and atmospheric. Without having played the game it's hard to c...( read more)ompare the stories, but I assume the film makers copied the atmosphere rather well. There are some rather scary and pretty disgusting scenes, a lot of gore, but sometimes the logic does not seem to play much of a role. Some of the dialoges are pretty lousy, too. That being said, the film is far from boring and keeps you watching. In the end, everyone has to decide how they read the ending. That's not the worst thing to say about a film. Decent, but with some wasted potential.

I don't care what people say about this movie. I found it dark, disturbing, and one of the most eerie movies of our time. The visuals were bad at a few times but the movie actually stands strong.

Big fan of the silent hill games so was generally excited and eager to see the film version.

Was slightly disappointed with the storyline especially the ending which to me did not feel like a conclusion(sequel please).

Did like the creatures and the way everything changed into the dark other-world. Sean Bean seemed disconnected from the story, which could of had him searching for his wife in the same reality as opposed to them in alternate worlds. Loved the pyramid head(where did he go?), the nurses in the corridor was very clever.

Also the haunting sounds and music is kept true to the games and that tune with the guitar is spine tingling.

Silent Hill, Brotherhood of the Wolf director Christophe Gans has managed to capture the look and feel of the Silent Hill.

Duplicating everything from the town's fog-shrouded streets and dilapidated shop-fronts to the grinding, rusted nightmare of its 'dark world', Silent Hill immobilizes and formulates the look and feel of the game with perfect clarity and accuracy. Familiar locations are present and correct, the grotesque creatures replicated with horrific attention to detail and even the game's familiar, unsettling score returns to gnaw steadily at the nerve endings. This is a masterful tribute to the game series.

Did quite enjoy Silent Hill overall so much, but still think the film is no where near as good as the games. Saying that this is the best video game adapt I've seen apart from the Resident Evil series, although Silent Hill was always more psychological relying on ambient sounds and darkness to play against your fears.

Still...room for improvement if they do a sequel...

I can't wait to return to Silent Hill

First of all lemme tell yo I LOVE SEAN BEAN...movies

When I played Silent Hill on Video Game. It nearly screwed my Mind off.
It was the Atmosphere. You dont know what comes next outta Fog and what do you expect the next.
    It was realistic. It felt
...( read more) as if I was kindda living the game. The Movie was not MIND SCREWING as the Video game itself, but great done. Scary no. Suspense yes. Great Actors, great Locations and great Plot.
Oh and before I forget. I played the game several times till the End Oh yeah I survived it as you can see. Incase you wondering. lol

Nick Schager, Slant Magazine

Despite its often-overwhelming nonsensicality, there's ultimately something irresistibly fiendish about Silent Hill. full review

Not only can I not describe the plot of this movie, but I have a feeling the last scene reverses half of what I thought I knew (or didn't know). full review
