More of the same in this very good sequel, but you kinda know what to expect now. Similar to House of 9 in some ways.

Oh yes, there will be blood.

Jigsaw is back and this time he has 8 people locked in a house full of traps and only a few hours to live and it's up to Detective Matthews to save them as one of the unlucky 8 people is his son.

I absoultey loved the first Saw it was brilliant and ...( read more)very original and I'll be the first to admit that when I heard that a sequel was being prepped to be released only one year after the original I thought that it was gonna be bad but gladly I was wrong. SAW II was a relentless, enthusiastically directed and twisted little gem. Just like any other good film, this continuation had a powerful weapon in its holster, one that Hollywood so often forgets to bring to the table when creating their "products" and that's a strong screenplay. The bases were mostly covered in that department with riveting chain of events, a clever puzzle like nature when it came to its mind toying mystery, some heart (the Mason ordeal) and a near flawless juggling act in terms of the two main plot lines which were steamrolled forward simultaneously. To make matters much better. Now being that this is a sequel, some of what made the original special was lost in the name of not fully repeating the first film while new goodies were gained. I particularly grooved to the "Hannibal Lecter/Clarice" like mental warfare Jigsaw and Mason shared. It made for a compelling listen/watch, was the soul of the film while acting as an interesting contrast to the more action oriented "in the house" shenanigans. The further exploration of my fav Bath Robe wearing killer's psyche jazzed me as well! Although I craved more info (I still don't know why Jigsaw is so freaking nuts!), the added insight was appreciated and went to prove me wrong. Knowing more about the lad didn't make him less scary. I think I fear him more now! Donnie Wahlberg (Det. Mason) played it smart; he underplayed it while displaying an endearing mix of toughness and vulnerability. Tobin Bell (Jigsaw) was very much focused and controlled as Jigsaw Dina Meyer (Kerry) did what she had to do adequately most of the time, although I didn't buy a couple of her "reaction shots" and wished she'd do more than stare at PC screens. Shawnee Smith (Amanda) was bang on in her role; selling it to the max. I'm so happy they brought her back and gave her more to do.

A house trap and group dynamics work interestingly here. The story twists and turns are wonderful. The traps are gruesome and hard to watch, especially the pit of needles and the glass wrist-cutting box. Nothing can top the shocking ending of Saw I, but this came close.

A very poor sequel that looses all of its originality and gets sucked into haunted house cliche crapness.

Okay, I never intended to ever see this film, modern horrors just aren't my cup of tea, but strangely enough, this film isn't as bad I thought it'd be! The plot is actually really interesting, its not all about sawing off limbs, you discover more about the victims and how they go...( read more)t to be chosen for the "game". These "games" I must say are not for the faint-hearted, however if sick tasks involving tonnes of blood and gore is your thing, you'll love it ;) I just think it's interesting to see if anyone completes their seemingly impossible tasks and to learn more about the guy who's behind it all, Jigsaw. I would definitely recommend this film, that's a lot considering as I usually avoid these films, I've even watched the next 3 and plan to watch them all! By far the best of the Saw films, the others don't compare...

Kurt Loder, MTV

The slaughter in Saw II is pretty much non-stop, but you always see it coming. The movie's not really that scary, just gross in what by now is a fairly routine way. full review

Nick Schager, Slant Magazine

Unable to deliver the single novel concept or unexpected surprise that might justify its existence. full review

Kyle Smith, New York Post

Saw II has teeth, and this house-of-horrors franchise has legs, though they're manacled to the radiator. full review

Colin Covert, The Minneapolis Star Tribune

The serpentine plot is logical; the acting is passable and the film creates a palpable atmosphere of paranoia and tension. full review

I am a major fan of the saw movies and i have never seen a film like this with so much mindless violence but with a fantastic story to follow with it isnt a freddy or michael myers he is none of thoughs he is some one who punishes people for thier crimes in sick ways like a vigilante and the plot mixed with the gore just makes the movie much more sweeter!

I am not into horror and senceless killing, that is why I like this movie so much. It is edge of your seat, thought provoking. They should make more horror movies like this with a story line you can follow.
