A much stronger film would have measured the deplorable ethics of using extraordinary rendition with its results and debated its usefulness. This is not that film. It tries to cover an epic scope, throws in way too many characters, and even includes a plot twist involving time-...( read more)

Very topical and controversial subject matter. Strong performances, esp. by Arkin. Recommended.

Douglas Freeman: Give me a pie chart, I love pie charts. Anything, anything that outweighs the fact that if you torture one person you create ten, a hundred, a thousand new enemies!!!

Very sobering and intense. I don't really know what my reaction is or should be. Certainly more interested in what the practices actually are (unsure how much of the movie is dramatized/fictionalized).

Critic Reviews
A political potboiler guaranteed to get your heart racing. It pushes all the buttons these kinds of suspenseful dramas usually do. full review
Rendition, while engrossing, does not grab us as it should. full review
What the film documents is that we have lost faith in due process and the rule of law, and have forfeited the moral high ground. full review
Its clumsy efforts are toward an honest and difficult goal, which is to use the resources of mainstream movie-making to get viewers thinking about a moral crisis that many of us would prefer to ignore.
At every turn the screenplay turns geopolitics into Lifetime Channel pablum. full review
What a cast, indeed. And what a bust as persuasive drama. full review
Laughably melodramatic and agonizingly inert. full review
Rendition has multiple crisscrossing plots, a cliff-hanger climax, and a strong current of hope -- that an individual's conscience can triumph over careerism and bureaucratic moral blindness. full review

March 19, 2008For what is most to say about this movie is it "lack lusters" what suspense is all about. "Meryl Streep" whom we all know and love plays a "bitchy" woman quite well. As for the rest of the cast they were not that memorable expect for the man guy who was held hostage. It was a good movie but I wouldn't see it again. Though it does make a good point about the US government.

November 6, 2007what I don't like about this film is the character of that young African guy who became a suicide bomber. Other than that, the movie's okay already.
