"It's not the power of the curse - it's the power you give the curse."
Penelope....was ok. It wasn't the best movie I ever seen. It wasn't the most moving movie I ever seen. It was just ok. The actors were ok. I don't know. It felt like a big hole was missing from the plo...( read more) -

Admittedly the only reason I watched this one was its name, but hey.... I liked it :)
I think there's a good lesson to be learned in this story on the lines of looks aren't everything.

Penelope is a great movie.
A rich family is cursed, to have their first born daughter born disfigured, and can only be broken when one of her own excepts her, as she is.
Penelope is a classic fairy tale story, with a good moral. It was sweet and fun, and very enjoyable for both...( read more) -

the ladies will love this flick. my wife has seen it 5 times at least. theres nothing necessarily bad about the flick, although a few scenes fail under logic, but when the flick was over i just didnt care much that i had seen it. the cornerstone of what it means to be average.

A very nice magical film - looks aren't everything! I love that "Hoppípolla" is the soundtrack, it's a really great and magical song and suits the film very well along with being one of my favourite songs.

I think this is probably one of the most tolerable modern fairy tale's i've seen. The cast was really great and James McAvoy and Christina Ricci really worked well together. The story has a really good message and it avoids most of the cliches that come with stories like these.

Critic Reviews
Sweet as gingerbread, Penelope deserves to find an audience; those with a taste for happily-ever-afters should look for it, before it too-quickly disappears. full review
The picture has a hapless, meandering quality that's tolerable at first but ultimately becomes maddening, as if it were a cartoon narrative recounted by a distracted 4-year-old. full review
Penelope was in a trough of trouble before the oink on the script was dry. full review
Perhaps the best reason to recommend Penelope is that it offers an opportunity to watch Catherine O'Hara in action as the alarming Mrs. Wilhern. full review
Penelope sat unreleased for two years, and no wonder. It's a shambles, so inexpertly timed and clumsily directed by newcomer Mark Palansky that it seems like a first-draft edit of some hopeless, aband... full review
Aimed at tweenage girls and mushy romantics of all age and stripe, Penelope has a quick gait and a nice comic tone. full review
Director Mark Palansky wishes he was Tim Burton. So will you, because even with producer Reese Witherspoon showing up in a cameo, Penelope is dead on arrival. full review
Mark Palansky goes for Tim Burton-by-Jean-Pierre Jeunot whimsicality with Penelope, a storybook fable that never overplays its cutesiness but also fails to figure out what it wants to be. full review

July 19, 2008Fantastic and wonderful! Lovely and enchanted! But I got a doubt...if she acepted herself as she was...why her nose was gone? I prefer her as a pig than as a normal girl. Well, its a movie...thats why in EARTH people prefer the beauty knowing that beauty dosnt stay forever..it gets old and dirty...and then dies...and its true...your not beautiful forever...its sad but true. People should accept them as they are, by heart, not cause she or he is handsome or gorgeous or has a great body...hell no. Anyway, great cast, great film, cool and funny...its worth it...yeah it is. Recomend it!
