A few years back, a failed comedian decided to write a lame book masquerading as a breakthrough relationship manual, stating the most obvious facts and cliches, making every woman out to be in oblivious denial, and every man out to be a jerk. For some baffling reason, Oprah gave...( read more) it her golden seal of approval and all of her zombie followers gobbled it up. Then, Drew Barrymore decided it needed to be a movie, and set out to produce it. Ugh.

Now, let me say right off the bat I have no problem with romantic comedies. There are plenty that I like. Relationships between men and women are perfect fodder for comedy. But while mosty enjoyable, this film is kinda hit-and-miss, but succeeds due to an impressive cast.

Yes, like the book, the movie essentially paints every guy as a jerk (to various degrees and in their own different ways), and every woman as in oblivious denial. Sure, there are plenty of funny and cute moments, but the factor that keeps this from being an even better film is the same one that plagues many similar ensemble films like Love Actually: Too many storylines.

There are stories and characters you care about, and then there are the ones you don't - The ones that just make you spend every minute of their screentime waiting to get back to the ones you DO care about. Barrymore even casts herself in a completely pointless, tacked-on role that really has no purpose in the film. So the film feels spread too thin, especially over an unnecessary 2 hour and 20 minutes running time.

What does work, and quite well, is the individual performances, most notably Ginnifer Goodwin and Justin Long. It's so great to see them together again after both getting their first big break on Ed. (WHEN will that come out on DVD?!!?) Unusual choices for the leads, to be sure, but they are perfect for their parts. The rest of the actors do fine as well, but they can only carry the film so far before it falls victim to the mediocrity of its source material. In all, it's a fairly amusing flick, but one that thinks it is far more insightful than it really is.

*I give it bonus points for a scene involving/discussing the most underrated of John Hughes' films, Some Kind of Wonderful. I feel like I was the only person in the crowded theater who had a clue what they were talking about.

A chick flick for those who enjoy the recent glitzy TV shows, like "Sex in the City", loaded with big name stars and pretty faces. Somehow I don't think its reinforcement of the male-centred world view would go down well with feminists.

of corse MOST of the people in this movie ended up happy or at least content!

The only reason this movie got a 3 star rating was because my husband and I loved looking at the Baltimore scenery!

After many requests from my wife I finally caved in and watched this one. Now I want to kick my own ass for allowing such tripe into my life. Basically, a bunch of attractive twenty-somethings whine at eachother about how inept they are with the opposite sex for approximately 90 ...( read more)minutes. Exceptionally girlie and certainly no fun for anyone without an idealistic, teenage romanticism. Yes all the pretty people are nice to look at, but if you just have to have some substance in your movies, look elsewhere.

Not the best movie I ever watched. But it a good movie to watch when you don't have anything else to do.

How can such a star studded movie be so boring??!!1
This movie is funny in places but fails to keep you entertained and into the movie, its fun with a fantastic cast but the storyline is annoyingly boring with some irritating characters.
The movie is completely predictable tha...( read more)t leaves nothing to the imagination.
Its not really worth the effort because it has to be the most unfunny romcom ive seen in a while.

Its about a group of people/women who are attractive and going through men, jennifer aniston is dating Ben afflect but has trouble in paradise when she wants to get married but he doesnt, Barrymore cant find anyone to love, Connerly has cheating husband payed by Bradley Cooper who keeps Sleeping with Scarlett Johanson and Justin Long in the ends fall for psycho ginnerfer goodwin.

Its not a great romcom with so many dilemas and dramas that just fail to entertain!

When it comes to exploring men/women relationships, this isn't as deep or clever as "When Harry Met Sally," in my opinion. But as a lighthearted chick flick to relax with on a rainy evening, it fit the bill.

The title and cast are sure to lure women in by the droves - but surprisingly there's something to like here for the guys, too. full review

He's Just Not That Into You feels like a sitcom that resolves each mini-dilemma before going to commercial. full review

He's Just Not That Into You succeeds more with clever one-liners than in its uneven scenarios. But it's light and entertaining, and its heart -- visible amid the cynicism -- is in the right place. full review

He's Just Not That Into You never soars, but it never flags. It remains brisk, engaging and pleasant throughout. full review

Somewhere along the way, He's Just Not That Into You starts taking all the wrong forks in the road of romance and ends up nowhere. full review

What makes this one a cut above the generic is a tart dose of drama and hard-bitten intelligence amid the candy corn. full review

Are women desperate or just desperately stupid? This is the misogynist question at the core of He's Just Not That Into You, a women-bashing tract disguised as a chick flick. full review

Is this what we want in our romantic comedies? Is it too much to hope for smart, dimensional female characters who have more to them than marriage lust (see also -- or rather, don't -- Bride Wars)? full review

Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times

The problem with most of the film's women is that they are interested in only (a) the opposite sex, (b) dating and (c) marriage. full review

When I saw so many great actor together, I couldn't wait to see this movie, but my BF saw it before I did and tried to make me not watch it...thank god I ignored him, cause I watched it and I loved it...It's mostly a chick flick; but common guys, you will gain a lot of points with your gal if you watch it with them for them...it'll be worth it and you could get a great payment after the movie, if you know what I mean...Lol

I decided to marry my now husband for 2 years based on this book called "He's Just Not That Into You" that was discussed on OPRAH SHOW. We are a very happy couple with one child now. It's really a great book, esp.for girls out there who are in doubt about their future relationship. So why don't you read the book too? Cheers, Hesty - Sydney
