A sweet, touching and very funny film. Jemaine Clement plays the nerd with issues really well but Loren Horsley really steals the show as Lily. Highly recommended.

I suppose love is blind. I don't see what Lily sees in Jarrod - to me, he is crazy whereas Lily is just awkward. But the movie is engaging. I find I was hoping they could make a go of it by the end.

Reminiscent of Napoleon Dynamite though not quite as funny. The dorky, geeky characters are just quirky enough and yet remain likable enough to reach your soft spot. The families are just as quirky as Eagle and Shark which makes the film a fun watch. If you enjoy your comedies...( read more)

Eagle vs Shark is the story of Lilly and Jarrod, two misfits both awkward in their own ways. They meet at a burger joint and fall in love over a video game. It focuses on life's relationships - family, past ghosts, and perplexing love.
This film reminded me a lot of Napoleon Dyna...( read more) -

"You're a bitch and you're going to die of diabetes!"
I suppose it was inevitable that a Napoleon Dynamite clone would eventually be made. That quirky tale of nerd life captivated audiences and befuddled critics for what seemed like a decade during the summer of 20...( read more) -

A great film, sure to make it into my top ten favourites of all time.
There's a lot i can relate to in this film, and for me it makes it
very personal. which is great as it's almost like a reflection of my life;
the banality, the struggle to find hapiness, the guache interactio...( read more) -

As much as I disliked Jarrod, that's a really cute movie. It has quite funny moments. Very sweet and touching. And completely filled with insecurity issues, among others.

New Zealand seems to have some raving pride in being completely fucking mad, and nowhere is that better evident than here in the peculiar story of Lily and Jarrod, two awkward misfits who find each other and embark upon one hell of a random adventure in each other's company. Laug...( read more)

Ok, it's a contradiction, but "Eagle vs Shark" is not like "Napoleon Dynamite" but it looks like "Napoleon Dynamite". Reasons? 1- This isn't a high school tale folks, but try to imagine how would be Napoleon 15 years after it. Imagined? Ok, that's how "Eagle..." sounds. 2- Napole...( read more)

A lil more weird than I was waiting, but cute.
Jarrod was pretty cool - nerd, weird, and kinda stupid - just awesome.
Lily was kinda cute too, I guess.
I loved the apple scene, though. It was so damn cute!
A nerd love story... it was impossible to me not to like it.
Critic Reviews
If you just can't get enough of watching a waif being mistreated for comic effect, by all means go see Eagle vs. Shark. full review
Floats by on a mood of concerned and puckish good will. full review
The tone and tenor of Waititi's effort are quieter, gentler [than Napoleon Dynamite]. This is low-key stuff, but strangely, goofily endearing. full review
This truly inventive and wacky tale of love among the nerds is a rare original and a real find. full review
One of those movies that invite you to laugh at its misfit characters and empathize with them at the same time.
A pleasing New Zealand gloss on Napoleon Dynamite, full of geek posturing, sweet weirdness and disarmingly modest goals. full review
Has eccentricity in spades, and a winning performance in lead actress Loren Horsley, yet doesn't quite add up to the sum of its parts. full review
Eagle vs Shark has its own distinctive style, partly thanks to whimsical little interludes of animation, but mainly because it ties blithe absurdity to a rock bed of emotional truth. full review
