Michael Keaton has never been better. Everyone else has. Good film though!

Certain merit in this film remembering that it wasn't made with todays illustrious CGI and model making that Tim Burton would create for any of his films released in the future. Yet you can still distinctly tell it is a T.Burton movie and I think Winona Ryder takes the show to ma...( read more)ke it a much better film.

I totally agree with Roger Ebert's review, which begins with, "The movie is all anticlimax once we realize it's going to be about gimmicks, not characters." I've just now, in my 20's, seen this movie for the first time. I haven't been living under a rock so I have seen pictures...( read more) and clips from the movie, but I am surprised how little of the movie was what I expected. It seemed custom made to be adapted into the Saturday morning cartoon that came in the special features of the DVD. But it was not nearly as funny or charming as I was led to believe by everyone who has enjoyed it since the 80's. I had no idea Beetle Juice, the character, was a ghostly genie-like guy who can grant supernatural assistance to the ghosts of Baldwin and Davis. I had no idea that he was miniature (like a genie would be in a bottle) and lived in a model of the town where Baldwin and Davis live in their house's attic. I don't think I ever realized that Winona Ryder befriends the ghosts and Beetle Juice in this movie. The movie definitely shows Burton's creativeness, but it was all so weird, and in this case that didn't make me like it any more.

Beetlejuice is spooktacular, original and again beautifully dark and twisted, I absolutely love the spooky, kooky design of everything, its sheer Burton gold in every sense, I love it. The soundtrack is awesome and the effects are cheesey yet lovely haha and as for Keaton....he's...( read more) perfect as the wicked, disgusting raspy voiced ghoul.
This film never looses its charm, I just wish Burton had made another.

"Say it once... Say it twice... But we dare you to say it THREE TIMES"

Thanks to the carelessness of a cute little dog, newlyweds Geena Davis and Alec Baldwin are killed in a freak auto accident. Upon arriving in the outer offices of Heaven, the couple finds that, thanks ...( read more)to a century's worth of bureaucratic red tape, they're on a long celestial waiting list. Before they can earn their wings, Davis and Baldwin must occupy their old house as ghosts for the next fifty years. Alas, the house is now owned by insufferable yuppies Catherine O'Hara and Jeffrey Jones. Horrified at the prospect of sharing space with these obnoxious interlopers, Davis and Baldwin do their best to scare O'Hara and Jones away, but their house-haunting skills are pathetic at best. In desperation, the ghostly couple engage the services of a veteran scaremeister: a yellow-haired, snaggle-toothed, profane, flatulent "gonzo" spirit named Beetlejuice (Michael Keaton). The problem: Beetlejuice cannot be trusted-especially when he falls in love with O'Hara and Jones' gloomy, black-clad teenaged daughter Winona Ryder.

    Review
Tim Burton's most twisted nightmarish movie ever is a hilarious high water mark for late eighties comedy. A great cast puts in wonderful performances. Baldwin, Davis, O'Hara, Jones, Goulet, Ryder, and especially Keaton in his most memorable character.

If you enjoy Tim Burton films, you will recognize his style. Angled camera work and sets with obtuse, geometric shapes, not to mention the dark, murky mood with something bright and colorful hidden beneath it all. If you're into Tim Burton and basically any kind of satirical humor, you will love Beetlejuice. If you're a nun, you'll probably need to recite a few Hail Mary's after seeing this! Either way, it's worth the viewing for all the laughs it brings!

Michael Keaton, you lovable son of a bitch. How can anyone not love Beetlejuice? It's just so warped and twisted, making no sense in the real world. It's like a nightmare coming to life and reaking havoc. Tim Burton really gave it his all and came up with such a memorable story a...( read more)nd character. Winona Ryder was great in her role and really made just as much of an effort as Michael Keaton, which says a lot. I can't think of many movies with more unique styles than this.

Creepy, strange... totally Tim Burton... this movie is for all the weirdies out there. A young Winona Ryder is great as a depressed goth teen, and Baldwin and Davis are great as 'rookie' ghosts. Keaton, though, blew me away, his oddness is unrivalled and he is channelling some in...( read more)sanity too. A really fun movie.
