A totally unique take on a love story, with very enjoyable performances by both Woody Allen and Diane Keaton. A great character who is filled with anxious energy and conspiracy theories, who babbles his way through educated quotes and half serious jokes, an enjoyable comedy whic...( read more)h devles into the depths of the over thinker.

Every other year or two I pull this one out of the DVD archives and 'rediscover' it. I know, I know, it's essentially a chic-flick cleverly disguised as a cerebral comedy but it never fails to lift my spirits, for one reason or another. This time it was the universal commonalit...( read more)y of failed relationships.

There is a Tao to Woody Allen's humor that strikes a chord within my own neurotic, insecure self. I really can't sum it up any better than Allen does: [I'm paraphrasing here so bear with me] There is an old joke that goes something like this - a man goes to the doctor and says, 'Doc, you've got to help me. My brother thinks he's a chicken.' The doctor says, 'Well, why don't you have him committed?' to which the man replies, 'I would, but I can really use the eggs.'

As Allen points out, maybe this is the reason we keep seeking out relationships even though most of them are ridiculously impossible. Maybe we just really need the eggs.

A neurotic NYC comic loses Annie because he can't relax and enjoy life. Not quite as wacky and funny as the earlier Allen comedies (although he does get off a classic one-liner about masturbation) but there are lots of then innovative breaking-the-fourth-wall techniques and wond...( read more)erful characterizations by the leads.

until the release of vicky Christina barcelona this was probably woody allens best film. the blend of audience inclusion, animation, and dialogue boxes makes for a creative and fun look at an up and down romance. one of the great romantic comedies ever made.

Woody Allen's Annie Hall is a story about the relationship between Allen's character and a woman named Annie Hall played by Diane Keaton. The story isn't told in a linear sequence and kind of goes all over the place. I think that particular style works pretty well for this film a...( read more)s it was quite interesting.

This film won several Academy Awards including best picture, best actress for Diane Keaton, best director, and best writing. In addition to a storytelling mode that's all over the place, the film is famous for its long takes and breaking of the fourth wall. I could go into a bunch of other details about various aspects of this film, but that's not really necessary. Personally, I thought this was a great film and it's probably the best film I've reviewed from the 1970s. I'm not normally a huge fan of comedies, but I can certainly make an exception for this one.

There are some movies that upon watching them too many times, you feel tired of it and predict the ending. Annie Hall is not like this. When you see it too many times you greet the scenes as old friends and watch them with nostalgia in your heart as you still laugh the same way y...( read more)ou laughed the first time.

While it's a decent script, Woody Allen tends to present the same character time after time in his movies. He makes this a weak attempt and should've stuck to directing only. It does have some good performances especially from the insane brother of Diane Keaton, Christopher Walke...( read more)n. It's an enjoyable film, but is not flawless by any means.

Watching it again, 25 years after its April 1977 premiere, I am astonished by how scene after scene has an instant familiarity. full review

I'm actually quite surprised by the number of people on flixster calling this "total dreck" and woody allen "overrated".
