My friends think I am crazy because I go on and on about other movies but not these, and they are never in my top 10, not in my top 250! They just did not do it for me!

The animation and sound is good, the story is okay. It could win an Oscar. It was cute. The kids liked the animation. But it was way over their heads.

Southland Tales
Southland.Tales...dumb da dumb dumb. Okay, I like the cast. I laughed 3 times in the first third of the movie. I understood it and can respect it for what is was, it is just not for me. I only reccomend this if you are stoned, tripping or on drugs. It is not all bad. there are some interesting things that the writer/director is trying, I just don't think that they worked. I guess there was not an unlimited budget to keep re-writing the sciprt and film more with the cast. Too bad. Needs a couple of more re-writes. IDK. I feel kind of sorry for some of the cast. But I guess they did read the script. What the hell? Maybe it reads funnier.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2009,  PG-13)
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen
I am surprised that we all went and saw this, amazing. I am just tripping on this opening weekend dollar tallies. Un-freaking-real. But then again not totally unheard of, and I used to be a teeny bopper who would lol out loud at 21% of critics liking it and 87% of Flixster users liking it and saying the critics have their heads up their ass.

It reminds me of eating at McDonald's which I did this past week unfortunately. It was a convenience, there was nothing else at the movies on Thursday night. I was surprised at how small the Double Quarter Pounder with Cheese is for the money I shelled out. If I get the same burger at local Burger Hut it is fantastic, filling and a bargain compared to McDonald's. I wonder how many of all the low budget movies I have loved that would add up to Bay's budget? Okay so yes this movie is for the tweens and such that are not movie snobs like I, but some of those really cross over well. When I left Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, I felt ripped off, fed crap and empty feeling.

Action without any suspense is borderline comical and funny but not in a good way. It is tragically detached, very unemotional, and shallow entertainment like a weak half hour of the same as the last half hour kids pathetic television with a big ass budget and no real tension or connection.

It has no heart (how sad). I did not care about the robots, did anyone? I did not care about what was going to happen to the humans in the movie, did anyone? Except hoping that a Megan Fox boob would flop out during one of the explosions. Nope, not here. Not today. Fox is totally hot, but my friend challenged me to think if they could have had any hot chick play that role and yes they could have. And her hotness is not capitalized on. Tears from Fox instead of CGI Bumblebee would be better.

Dude 3 seats down actually fell asleep during this omgosh lol. The theater was packed and very quiet for and action flick because nothing worthwhile happens.

I listened to the rock soundtrack was pretty depressed. The songs were mostly downers and I did not like the Green Day song they chose for this context. I do like Nickelback's Burn It To The Ground and The Used's screaming cover of the 1983 song by Talking Heads "Burning Down the House".

Steve Jablonsky's original score thoroughly disappoints me.

But edited into the context of the movie, the soundtracks are not as bad as there as by themselves.

"UTTER SHITE"

"dumber than a box of staples... If you want to save yourself the ticket price, go into the kitchen, cue up a male choir singing the music of hell, and get a kid to start banging pots and pans together. Then close your eyes and use your imagination." - Roger Ebert, "The plot is incomprehensible. The dialog is meaningless word flap. The humans shoot at the Transformers a lot, although never in the history of science fiction has an alien been harmed by gunfire.

Drag Me to Hell (2009,  PG-13)
Drag Me to Hell
One good thing was that I did not see any trailers for this so I was not expecting much except by way of Sam 'Evil Dead' Rami. I had heard that the critics really liked it (maybe b/c it was tame and not gory). And I had just seen The Hangover so I was pumped. I thought from the poster and title that there would be more literal DRAG-ing, finger nails breaking, every muscle popping trying to escape: oh well.

Sam Rami has gifts imo and this movie was not too horribly bad imo just not really my thing. I'm not big on horror anymore. I burned out when I was a teenager on it. But for me this movie was not enough horror, not enough Satanic, not scary enough, not enough scares/jumps or suspense. It was not tough for me either psychologically. The best toughest parts were left out, the real drama: 2-3 major parts for me. w/e...

I found myself really really appreciating some of Alison Lohman's talents and searching hard to find see some of them towards the end. It was good for her, I'm sure.

I'm a fan of Justin Long, but he really did not do anything for me here :(

I do hope some casting agents saw Bojana Novakovic as Ilenka Ganush.

Costume were excellent. Sam's use of lighting, sounds, shadows, etc were all very good. Some of the simpler action shots were harder for me to believe than the wild over-the-top poltergeist ones which seemed plausible to me.

Overall I liked it but I was disappointed. 93% by critics on RT? Are those just the horror critics or Spiderman 3 fans or what?

I did laugh and clap and stuff so it was alright. Kinda fun. Almost.

some of it was soooo bad, and some of it was alright but working on a marriage is a hard thing so I guess this was good in a way

Frozen River (2008,  R)
Frozen River
My best friend wrote: "The frozen river is a great metaphor for the lifeless, going-no-where situation they all found themselves in.

As for me personally, I did not like it. I was not impressed by the actress' performance, the screenplay, the cinematography, the soundtrack, or any of the characters, story or actors. Prob the best imo was the older Jonas
Brother looking boy and even that was a bit shallow to me. I mostly thought
it was boring, dull, unimaginative, uncreative and weak. Someone besides the academy liked this. But it is not bad for her Courtney Hunt's first film, writing and directing. Oscar noms for best actress and best screenplay. I thought that in terms of Original Screenplay, that The Dark Kinight, Iron Man, Cloverfield, Seven Pounds, Gran Torino, Burn After Reading, Fireflies In The Garden, The Wackness, Transsiberian, Defintely, Maybe, Changeling, Nothing But the Truth, Ghost Town , Wanted and even Forgetting Sarah Marshall were all better than Frozen River.

Now for my list of better actress performances:
Kate Beckinsale in Nothing But the Truth
Dakota Fanning in The Secret Life Of Bees
Madeline Carroll in Swing Vote
Cate Blanchett in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Freida Pinto in Slumdog Millionare
Rosario Dawson in Seven Pounds
Frances McDormand in Burn After Reading
Emily Mortimer in Transsiberian
Julia Roberts in Fireflies in the Garden
Emily Mortimer in Redbelt
Ellen Page in Smart People
Radha Mitchell in The Children of Huang Shi

The Wrestler (2008,  R)
The Wrestler
Mickey Rourke really brings Randy The Ram to life in a very good performance. Marisa Tomei does well with what she has. Evan Rachel Wood does well with her limited screen time, too.

Bloodier and more tense than I thought it would be. Also a sadder story although that never scares me off.

I was a little bit surprised by the number of handheld shots. One of them I was spinning and lmao as The Ram pulls up in his van, gets out and goes around to open the passenger door as the handheld followed - whew!

But I really was not into it. It gripped me for moments or scenes but then let go and I was almost bored.

It seems I am one of the rare people that did not love this movie even though I respect the work.

Hellboy II: The Golden Army (Hellboy 2) (2008,  PG-13)
Hellboy II: The Golden Army (Hellboy 2)
I did not like the first one but this was better because of it was directed by Guillermo del Toro. His antics and signatures were all that kept me interested. And even then it was a bit of a stretch for me without a good story.

I like Sema Blair in indy dramas but so boring in this for me.

Transporter 3
Gotta love Jason Statham as Frank but I did not like it as much as the first 2, although Jason Statham sure takes off his shirt a lot more in this one it seems (and he is ripped)

But yeah, it was a little boring even with all the crazy action. Natalya Rudakova was ok. Knepper and Krabbe were not for me this time around.

Trick 'r Treat (2008,  R)
Trick 'r Treat
wow, I feel like I'm going against the popular vote on this one. Some friends have it at 5 stars, 100% of critics (10/10 probably all horror genre critics). I've read some very good reviews of this film that said it was awesome, 10/10 and turned the horror genre on it's head.

I did NOT like it. I was majorly disappointed. Maybe too much hype? And I like good horror movies. I like Anna Paquin and Brian Cox. I liked the kid actors. It was acted well. It was well made. It was different a little from 96% of horror movies. But it was not horrifying, scary, original enough for me. I liked some of the ideas for sure (parade, bus, "college" girl(s) mentioned in the plot synopsis, but I thought that they were all weak. Good ideas that just did not deliver for me. Maybe I wanted to be scared more, or more horror. The storyline with Cox's character probably had the best suspense for me. The story with Baker was the creepiest, I guess. The wife was the most horrifying, I guess. And the teenagers that looked like they were actually played by teenagers (omg, casting yipee) were good because they were still young enough to pull it off without looking unnaturally absurd.

All in all it reminded me of the original Creepshow but not any better, and set all around Halloween. See it if you love horror but if you don't love horror and want to see it, please don't get your expectations too high and enjoy. You might like it.

X-Men Origins - Wolverine
I had very low expectations and therefore was not very disappointed. I like Hugh, Liev, Ryan and Dominic.

Kodi Smit-McPhee was replaced due to scheduling conflicts with The Road

Cool to see a little Gambit and others. I chose to enjoy the cheesiest moments and even laughed aloud a few times at Hugh's Adamantium Rage.

I really wanted to see just a little more of the mutants near the end, such a wasted opportunity.

I also was pining for some Wolverine vs The Hulk action. Oh well, on to Japan for X-Men Origins: Wolverine 2 due in 2011.
