Judi Dench

Dame Judith Olivia Dench is well known for often playing dignified, strong willed women in positions of authority who are sometimes opposed or criticized by those under her.

In September 1957, she made her first professional stage appearance with the Old Vic Company, at the Royal Court Theatre, Liverpool, as Ophelia in Hamlet, then her London debut in the same production at the Old Vic.

IIn 1959 Judi made her on-screen debut with a BBC made-for-television movie "Hilda Lessways". That was the beginning of her television career that spanned five decades of amazing performances on screen; and at 73, Judi Dench is still pursuing acting in major motion pictures.

She has won multiple awards for performances on the London stage, including a record six Laurence Olivier Awards. She also won the Tony Award for her 1999 Broadway performance in the role of Esme Allen in David Hare's Amy's View. Alongside her numerous award winning performances, she has also managed to take on the role of Director for a number of stage productions. Dench won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress as Elizabeth I in the film Shakespeare in Love.

Dench was awarded the OBE in 1970, became a Dame Commander of the British Empire in 1988, and a Companion of Honour in 2005.

I love Judi Dench their is no other actress that I would rather meet in person than her. I think she is Number 1 in the acting category she can do any scene andy character and become that person so believable you almost forget who is playing the role.

I was on holiday in England this summer (2009) and I just happened to be in Lacock when the Christmas Special of Cranford was being filmed. On my very first day I got a really good shot of Dame Judi Dench walking over to the set. I met some of the other cast but it would have made my 40th birthday really special if I had met Dame Judi.
She is such a talented Dame excuse the pun & I wish her health & happiness.
